A New World is ahead for William Allen

 By DJ Rankins

A different world is in front of William Allen after a successful commutation.

William Allen has overcome 27 years of jail time and will now be free. But what will be his biggest challenge? How has the world changed?

Since Allen’s initial charges the world has changed in many ways.

Allen has seen multiple presidents in office during his time. Bill Clinton was in office when he was initially arrested.

When he was first arrested it was figured out that  scientific evidence emerges which supports the theory that humans first evolved in Africa

Since his initial arrest, in 1997, Allen will see a much more technology-driven world. This will be one of the biggest adjustments for him.

Stonehill College professor Kathleen Dykman said that this could be a groundbreaking case for the state of commutations.

“Seeing a successful commutation is something that is very rare to see, and we got to see his resiliency pay off,” she said.

It was how Allen spent his time in prison that ultimately led to his successful commutation.

During his time in prison, he was seen being stable in the community and using his time to better himself.

Some of the community acts consisted of mental health help at Bridgewater, being a barber, minister, and taking classes.

Psychology professor John McCoy said how this will show how tough Allen really is when he first starts living in this new world.

“He will have to show that he is ready to learn and that none of the new aspects of this world will be too difficult for him to overcome.

DA Timothy J. Cruz said that the biggest aspect of life after prison is family.

Cruz also told a story of Allen saving a security guard during a jail fight.

Now that he is out he will see a different type of world than there was 27 years ago.

“His dad is still around, but the lack of family has always had an effect on him,” Cruz said.

Cruz also said that he needs to put an emphasis on getting a job immediately. But this shouldn’t be an issue for Allen who has many skills from his time in jail.

Allen has now been given a successful commutation and will hopefully be released.
